Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and materials needed.
  • Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials using hand and power tools.
  • Construct frameworks, including walls, roofs, and door frames, and install windows and cabinets.
  • Repair or replace damaged structures, fixtures, and furniture.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople, such as electricians and plumbers, to ensure proper integration of building systems.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following all safety protocols.
  • Train and mentor apprentices or less experienced carpenters as needed.

Tasks

  • Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Prepare tenders and quotations
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
  • Survey building locations and levels
  • Estimate costs and materials
  • Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments

Qualifications:
