Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and materials needed.
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials using hand and power tools.
- Construct frameworks, including walls, roofs, and door frames, and install windows and cabinets.
- Repair or replace damaged structures, fixtures, and furniture.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople, such as electricians and plumbers, to ensure proper integration of building systems.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following all safety protocols.
- Train and mentor apprentices or less experienced carpenters as needed.
Tasks
- Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
- Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Prepare tenders and quotations
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
- Survey building locations and levels
- Estimate costs and materials
- Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments

Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.
- Valid journeyman carpenter certification or license (if required by local regulations).
